Virginia Creek

When a person hikes between St Mary Falls and Virginia Falls there are a number of rapids and falls along Virginia Creek that some people mistakenly think are Virginia Falls.  Especially since:
  • the trail gains in elevation and out of shape people would like these falls to be Virginia Falls so they can stop hiking,
  • one cannot see or hear the real Virginia Falls until one is close to it, and
  • these are nice waterfalls.
Here are a few photos and a video of falls on Virginia Creek:

The video I made is 1:28 long.

St Mary Falls

On June 25 Patti and I hiked to a number of waterfalls in Glacier Park.  It was a good time to go as this was a high water year and the rivers were running high and fast due to all the snow from the previous Winter.

The first waterfall that we visited was St Mary Falls.

The distance from the Sun Road to the falls is .8 of a mile.  One loses 260 feet of elevation walking down to the falls.

Here are some photos of St Mary Falls.

Patti and I then hiked up above the falls on user-trails.  This is the stream that flows down into St Mary Falls.

Here is a video I made of St Mary Falls.  It is 2:20 long.
